Endoscopic Midface Lift
The midface is the portion of the face extending from the lower eyelids to the corner of the mouth, broadly referred to as the cheeks. This is one of the earliest areas of the face to show signs of aging. Sagging of the midface is responsible for forming the melolabial folds, commonly known as the smile lines. A midface lift restores a youthful appearance by elevating the cheeks, reducing the smile lines, and restoring a youthful facial contour.
Goals To restore the midface to a more natural position.
The Procedure Small incisions are hidden within the hairline of the temple and inside of the mouth. An endoscope (advanced camera) is used to assist in performing the surgery, allowing for smaller incisions. The skin, muscle, and fat of the cheeks are elevated as one unit.
Anesthesia Deep sedation/twilight sleep is preferred, however some patients opt for a general anesthetic.
Length of Time A midfacelift takes approximately 1-2 hours to perform. It is performed in a state of the art, fully accredited outpatient surgical facility or at the hospital. Other procedures such as a browlift or eyelid surgery can be combined with a midfacelift. They may be recommended after a detailed consultation with Dr. Steiger.
After the Procedure Most patients go home comfortably on the same day and are cared for by their family and/or friends. Professional in-home nursing care is available upon request. Overnight suites with professional nursing care are also available. Our friendly staff will assist you in coordinating these services upon request.
Recovery Recovery time ranges between 1-2 weeks. Depending on your type of work, you may return as early as 1 week. Full, strenuous physical activity should be avoided for 2 weeks after the procedure. Generally, bruising and swelling from a mid-face lift is less then that of a facelift. Most patients do not experience any real pain after surgery, but describe a discomfort from the feeling of tightness. We will prescribe analgesics to help alleviate this.
A mid-facelift is a procedure peformed to elevate the portion of the face from the lower eyelid down to the corner of th mouth. The midface is the earliest portion of the face to fall, beginning as early as the mid 30's. A midfce lift repositions these sagging tissues and restores a youthful facial contour. Since falling cheeks are responsible for the deepeing of the smile lines (melolabial folds), a mid-face lift improves there appearance.
Yes. Midface lifts are often performed in younger patients who do not need a lower facelift just yet. Midface lits can also be performed together with a facelift. This is called a triplane facelift because three different planes the facial tissues are elevated.
